Shurita Thomas Tate, Ph.D.

Assistant Professor in Communication Sciences and Disorders at FSU. She is a member of the American Speech Language and Hearing Association and is a recognized expert in African American studentsí use of non-mainstream dialect. Her research focuses on African American studentsí literacy achievement and the perplexing reasons why so many African American students are underachieving. She will contribute expertise to the project in the specific area of dialect awareness and more generally to understanding linguistic processes related to comprehension.
